One of the most prized recruits of the 2005 class, Anthony Barnes, is going to have to wait until next season to play for the Jackets. Evidently the NCAA has ruled Barnes ineligible because of confusion around one class he took in high school. Oh brother. However, here's the deal.......... He was injured during preseason practice. Because of the injury and the high school situation, he left school before classes started and will re-enroll in January. That means he will still have his "5 years to play 4" in tact............. Here's the story........ Here's another blurb........
At the end of the day, this isn't terrible. Barnes was moved from safety to the linebacker position, and was probably not going to see major PT this season as he learns that position. This will allow him to fill out his frame, learn the position, and still have 5 years of eligibility remaining. Do we need depth at LB? Yes, we really only go 4-deep. However, he still was further down on the chart and battling an injury just changes the game here. A bit disappointing, but certainly not back-breaking.
Speaking of depth, that article above mentioned a couple of other interesting things.......... Taalib Tucker and Jahi Word-Daniels will play this week versus UNC. That will bring the total true frosh to see action to 7........................ Djay Jones, battling injuries could return to practice early next week, which means he would play against UConn.......................... Kenny Scott returned to practice and will start this weekend..................
