Beesball: Jackets take a thriller from FSU

EDITED - NEW STORY ADDED AT BOTTOM

Wow, a great way to cap off Spring day. After the football scrimmage the beesball team rallies in the bottom of the 9th, scores 3 runs and wins 9-8. Danny Payne gets the game-winning 2-run single with the bases loaded and 2 outs to bring in the final two runs. And let me tell you, that was one tough at-bat. He fought and fought, fouling off a bunch of nasty pitches, until a fat curve ball was left up high. Payne whacked it right over the 2nd base bag.

The Jackets took the lead early 5-1, but FSU battled back. In fact FSU tied the game in the 5th inning and only had one hit at that point. Very strange, but chalk it up to inconsistency by our starting pitcher. Jason Neighborgall was a bit wild, but hung tough. He was either striking people out (7 k's), or plunking them (2-3 hitbatsmen), or walking them (5 bb's). Having said that he only gave up 1 hit in 4.1 innings and kept FSU to 2 earned runs.

Just an outstanding game, good drama, the Jackets get the W and clinch yet another ACC series. Maybe we can gets the brooms out on Sunday.
