Debating top Hoops Perimeter Players

Some nice props for GT players from the dudes at the Arizona hoops site - link here.

Hansen: Because I am a huge fan of Travis Diener at Marquette and John Gilchrist at Maryland. Unfortunately, it was too much to ask to have those guys at No. 1 because of Paul's presence. But it's all good. I have Diener at No. 2 and Gilchrist at No. 4 right behind Georgia Tech's Jarrett Jack.

Immel: The PG I rate second behind Paul is Jarrett Jack, the 6'3" junior from Georgia Tech. Jack is your typical standout college point guard; a guy who controls the game by dictating the tempo with which he wants his team to play at, along with possessing the ability to make his teammates better and score needed buckets when the time calls for it.

Hansen: He’s not the scorer that Paul is, and he can’t shoot it from deep like Diener does but Jack fills up the box score big time. I have him as averaging 12.5 points, five rebounds and 5.6 assists per game last year for the Yellow Jackets. Those numbers are sick for a point guard. I think his 1.84 A:TO ratio could be better, especially when compared to Paul (2.22) and Diener (2.53), but man, Jarrett Jack is outstanding.

On the shooting guards:
Immel: Just as good. There are many more intangibles, LIKE WINNING, that go into making someone a great player. I like Salim as much as the next guy, but besides being a head case, the guy has never led anyone anywhere when it counted, like the NCAA tournament. McNamara has a proven track record in taking big shots, and leading his team to great things in March. I'd put Salim behind B.J Elder of Ga. Tech, Justin Gray of Wake, and Bracey Wright of Indiana on my list of off-guards. He and J.J Redick share the No. 7 spot.

Hansen: I discovered that Justin Gray is a clone of Salim's on the east coast. Their numbers are almost identical except Salim's a better shooter and defender. If they switched teams Slim gets all the hype and Gray is looking for respect. Elder is in the same mold. Good player, not great. I'd put Salim, Gray and Elder in that order. And Redick. Good lord. He's another member of the one-dimensional club. In fact, he's the President and all the other guys are high-ranking officers. Salim is in that group, too, I admit, because all these guys do is shoot a lot and don't have much of a floor game.
