MLB Draft Notes

DEWITT GONE
Looks like our 1st round pick high schooler Blake Dewitt is gone, saying he plans to sign a minor league deal. He was the #28 overall pick. Story here.

EDDIE PRASCH
We may also lose this high school recruit. Story here.

Prasch, the Pirates' third-round choice, is a 6-1, 185-pound third baseman who powered Milton High in Alpharetta, Ga., with 13 homers and 52 RBIs in 36 games en route to winning Georgia's 5A title Friday.

Whether he will attend Georgia Tech or sign with the Pirates, Prasch said without tipping his hand, "I'm excited to continue the process."

BRANDON BOGGS
Quote:
"You can't predict where you're going to get drafted," Boggs said. "You just have to take it as it goes, and I'm happy to be going to Texas."

MIKE NICKEAS
From a Dallas Paper:
Another weak spot in the Rangers' system is catcher. They used their fifth-round pick on Georgia Tech catcher Michael Nickeas.
From a Canadian paper:
The first Canadian-born player selected was Georgia Tech catcher Mike Nickeas, born in Vancouver but raised in California. He went in the fifth round, 141st overall, to the Texas Rangers. This was the latest in a draft that the first Canadian has been selected since Lee Delfino also went 141st in the 1998 draft, selected by the Blue Jays.

ERIC PATTERSON
From a Chicago paper......
8. (246th overall) Georgia Tech 2B Eric Patterson--Corey Patterson's younger brother is an inconsistent hitter who, like Corey, will chase pitches and get himself out. His best tool is his speed, making him a potential leadoff hitter, but it could be tough to keep him from returning for his senior year at Tech.
........ Good article on "all in the family".
The Chicago Cubs are becoming a big part of the Patterson family.
Corey is the starting center fielder on the Major League team, and on Monday, his younger brother Eric was taken by the Cubs in the eighth round of the First-Year Player Draft.
