Jackets lose 1st game

Well, the sniffers took it to us in game 1. The final was 7-5. They key to the Jackets loss - hitting with runners in scoring position. I think they were baout 1-9. That just won't get it done. Have said that, there was a little pop in their bats, as E.Patterson and Nickeas both went deep. But Owings was not sharp on the mound and the mutts took advantage with a 5-run 3rd inning. With an 0-2 count, Owings grooved a pitch and Felmy took it deep. The Jackets had to climb back the rest of the day and just couldn't do it.

I would have to say there were 2 key plays that changed the game

1. Mike Nickeas had already thrown out one runner trying to steal and he threw a bullet that should have caught a 2nd runner. Greene bobbled the ball which would have been the 3rd out. UGAg went on to score a bunch of runs on the 3-run HR.

2. Bases loaded, 2 outs for the Jackets and Boggs hits a ground ball to 2nd.slides into 1st but can't beat the throw. End of inning.

If either of those plays goes the Jackets way, the game would have been different. Woulda, shoulda, coulda..... didn't happen, so on to Saturday. It comes down to this - the Jackets must win two games in a row. Well, we won 20 in a row, so two doesn't sound too bad.

Story on the game...... AP Story....... So much for Tech having the edge...... Pitching has carried the Jackets, but today it didn't get done.... The "state is abuzz" with the superregional....... Will college ball find a niche in GA?....... Jackets success rooted in record defense(although an error cost us a run today)........ More on the match-up......
