Luke gets cut

I feel terrible for Luke - he wanted to represent his country so badly in the Olympics - but it is not meant to be. They don't know what they're missing. Story here.

Boomers coach Brian Goorjian yesterday ended the 2004 Olympic dreams of four basketballers, just two months out from the Athens Games.

Brisbane Bullets guard Stephen Black, Wollongong Hawks player Mathew Campbell and American university players Luke Kendall and Luke Schenscher were all axed from the national squad.

The quartet missed selection on the Australian team's tour of Europe, starting next week, with 15 players still in the mix for the 12-man squad to be taken to Greece. Schenscher's departure seemingly leaves the door open for Italian-based David Andersen to book a spot in Athens following centre Chris Anstey's withdrawal through injury.
