Jackets win again

Well, another day, 3 more HR's. The long ball is showing its face bigtime. Couldn't have picked better timing. Owings goes 8 innings and gets the win. Robbins / Nickeas and Blackwood go deep.

Championship game Sunday at 1:00. GO JACKETS!!!!

Story on the game........... AJC version.

Kudos to Micah Owings for "stepping out on his faith":

Owings shares his faith

It's become a Sunday ritual at Georgia Tech in recent years, and is fast on the way to becoming every bit as much a school tradition as Buzz or the Ramblin' Wreck itself.

"My life is in you, Lord

My life is in you, Lord

My strength is in you, Lord

My hope is in you, Lord"

Standing up and clapping in rhapsody to the praise song "My Life is in You, Lord" has come to be part of the routine for Tech fans every time Micah Owings comes to the plate on Sunday afternoons.

Owings, a pitcher/designated hitter, inherited the practice from former Jackets star Matt Murton, who originated the routine as a way to express his faith.

"I think it's something we're going to pass on from now on," said Owings, who was the starting pitcher and added two hits in the Jackets' 9-3 win over Texas Tech on Saturday. "It's just kind of stepping out on your faith, letting everybody get a glimpse of what you believe in. I think the crowd just feeds off it."

Unlike the regular season, NCAA rules prohibit host schools from playing music that is partial toward individual players.

Owings, however, is hopeful that a nearby fraternity will do it for him as it did for Murton two years ago and blast the music from outside the stadium.
