Daily Swarm

BEESBALL NOTES
Last year's lowly performance in the ATL regional is starting to fade, with a strong victory last night over Jax.St. (story here). GT could head to the title game Sunday with a victory over Texas Tech today starting at 3:00 pm. Story here. Do you remember back to the beginning of the season where the coaches and players vowed to avenge their performance last season? They said this year will be different. Let's see what Coach Hall and the boys can do........ The bats were evidently not cooled off in our 2 losses to FSU - story here......... Texas Tech's victory yesterday was paced by Josh Brady, who also became a father recently and this was his first game as a "father". Story here. Sorry Josh, but there's another lesson you will have to teach your baby girl - life's not fair. Having a baby girl is the best thing in the world, but we're still going to try and crush you back into oblivion.......... More on the game, including our whacky calisthenics in the 3rd inning.......... More on getting back to the winning ways........ The AJC John Hollis version........

COACH HEWITT HONORED...
...by the Black Coaches Association. I mentioned it a month or so ago, but he is formally honored tonight in Indianapolis. His mentor, George Raviling, will be there, and will be honored with a lifetime acheivement award. Here's a nice story with lots of quotes from both men.

COACH HEWITT SPEAKS TO GT FOUNDATION
Click here for the link. Thanks to GT1951. Turns out Jeremis Smith is already on campus, getting a head start in school.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - JOE HAMILTON
This has to be one of the best articles I have seen on a former GT player. A lot of details on Joe, a lot of quotes, and who wrote it - a South Carolina paper. Well, I guess he is from SC - story here........ Here's a short bio.

RECRUITING - FOOTBALL
Interesting recruit named AJ Curtis, that the Jackets are interested in as a 2-sport start - football and track (discuss). Story here.

That something is Georgia Tech, which has entered the recruiting picture for the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder. The school is the first to discuss the idea of him competing in football and track and field. <

"(Football) is still up there at the top over track," said Curtis, who has drawn football interest from Northern Illinois and track and field interest from Iowa State and hopes to learn the University of Wisconsin's interest at a camp for instate prospects this month

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - RICHARD LEWIS
Traded by the Braves to the Cubs, he is now on a tear in their farm system. Story here.
Lewis went into the weekend hitting .356 with 30 RBIs for West Tenn and had a .607 slugging average thanks to 19 doubles, seven triples and five home runs. The 23-year-old from Pope High School had committed just one error in 49 games.

The 40th overall pick in the 2001 draft, Lewis had a .255 career minor league average coming into this season. But he hit .404 in the Arizona Fall League.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - FELIPE CLAYBROOKS
Last year the Browns gave Claybrooks over to NFL-Europe and he is currently 2nd in sacks with 9. Maybe he will get a return ticket in the fall.
Former Georgia Tech and Decatur High star Felipe Claybrooks went into this weekend second in NFL Europe in sacks with nine in as many games. Claybrooks was allocated to NFL Europe by the Cleveland Browns, for whom Claybrooks played seven games last season.
