Only Women to Coach Div I was at GT

Story here.

Mungari's road will always be bumpy, said Carol White, the only woman to coach Division I college football while on the Georgia Tech staffs of Bill Curry and Ross.

White, who runs a kicking academy out of Georgia, said Mungari or any woman wishing to coach football must make themselves more indispensable than similarly qualified men. "That nut isn't going to crack soon," White said.

White wasn't seeking a college spot, but she impressed Tech assistants at a gathering of high school coaches, and Curry, now an ESPN analyst, asked her to join the Yellow Jackets. The Division I door has mostly remained closed to women since White's final season in 1989.

"Assistant coaches often get their jobs because they played for a guy," White said. "Look at the lineage, because they're going to be tie-ins. You have to reputable in somebody's eyes."
