Story here. You know, last season was littered with star players having sub-par performances against GT. It is really quite impressive and a testament to the Paul Hewitt philosophy of hard defense and keying in on one specific guy to shutdown.
Smith is still haunted by, but also motivated by last season's 57-54 loss to Georgia Tech in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Smith scored just two points against the team that went on to play in the national championship game.
"I feel I had a terrible game against Georgia Tech, and this year that's brought a lot of fuel to the fire," said Smith, who tore a ligament in his left thumb during the preseason but is expected to be available for Friday's opener against Maine. "It's been on everybody's mind."
