Recruiting - Football and Hoops

Charles Hoke is a 6'7" 237lb tight-end in football with a 4.25 GPA. He also happens to moonlight in hoops. He has a football offer from the Jackets - link here.

All three were named to The Birmingham News Academic All-State team as juniors. Hoke, who measures just over 6-foot-7 and has improved his weight from 215 to 237 pounds since last football season, has the top GPA among the three at 4.25 on a 4.0 weighted scale. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds, bench presses 280 pounds and won't turn 18 until Aug. 18.

Also considered a top basketball prospect, Hoke has a 30½-inch vertical leap and is virtually unstoppable when the Lions need to complete a pass. He caught 57 passes last season for 945 yards and seven touchdowns. He has football offers from Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Louisville, Duke and Clemson. He says he has always been highly motivated in the classroom.

"Academics is something my parents have always stressed," he said.
The Jackets are also interested in his teammate, DL Andrew McCain:
McCain, at 6-6 and 255 pounds, is the most physical of the three. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds and benches 315 pounds. He's had offers from Florida, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Duke, Auburn and Louisville.

"It is very important to me to know that when my days of playing football are over, that I am prepared to have a successful career doing something else," he said.

With a 4.0 grade-point average, he sees himself possibly studying engineering in college.

GT missed on a bigtime prospect, lineman Aaron Lewis who chose Texas over FSU and GT. Story here.

Here is a story on Tripp Chandler - I think GT has offered him, even though it doesn't mention that in the story.

Here's a story on various hoops recruits to watch how the committment board looks so far. Link here. You will notice we are on the lists of a lot of top talent, including Byron Eaton, CJ Miles, Octavious Spann, Jamal Boykin, Eric Boetang, Andrew Bynum, and of course there are more - just not on this list.
