Jahi Word-Daniels, an all-star

Mention of Jahi Word-Daniels, the incoming freshman this fall.

Jahi Word-Daniels, Jarod Bryant and Cory Reamer helped Hoover High School to its third straight state football championship in December. In a few days, they'll look to extend another run of dominance.

The three Bucs are members of the Alabama All-Star football team, which meets the Mississippi All-Stars Saturday night at 7 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile. This is the 18th installment of the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star football game. Alabama has won the past six years and holds a 12-5 overall advantage.

Word-Daniels and Bryant are less than three weeks removed from a baseball season that extended deep into the playoffs for Hoover - the Bucs advanced to the 6A state semifinals. They'll use this week to get used to football again.

"Baseball and football are two totally different sports. I'm kind of out of football shape, but it feels good to get back in pads," Word-Daniels said. "I'm definitely glad to get right back into it."

It will be one more pre-college tune-up for the group. Word-Daniels, a defensive back, has committed to play football at Georgia Tech this fall.

"The experience I'll get from playing against top-ranked guys will help me when I go to Georgia Tech. I look forward to it," Word-Daniels said.
