Beesball: Jackets fall to Tenn

Wow. Leading 2-1 going into the top of the 9th, with your closer on the mound. Could the lack of experience in bigtime situations for freshman Matt Wieters have caught up with him? He gives up a 2-run HR that proved to be the game-winner for Tenn, 3-2. Tenn's ace Luke H. proved to live up to his billing, going 7 strong innings only giving up 2 runs (1 earned). However, Blake Wood did him one better, going the same 7 innings and giving up NO earned runs, only 1 hit (are u kidding me?) and giving the Jackets the lead..... that didn't hold...... ahhhhhhhh!!!!! Don't say it. You know what I mean - "here we go again". Just don't say. Let the thing play out before we moan and groan. Let's give THIS team a chance to prove they are different........

One thing is for sure - the pitching has been strong for the Jackets in the post-season. It is actually the hitting that has been inconsistent. So can the Jackets rebound and take 2 in a row? Absolutely. Will they? Will the Jacket post-season "curse" continue? Well, ya'll come back now and find out. Game 2 on Saturday at 1:00............ Here's the boxscore....... Here was a pre-game look match-up............ ACC teams are not faring well, as Miami loses 3-1 to Nebraska and FSU is currently down to Florida 4-0 in the 4th. Ouch............. Here are season stats on the Tenn players............. Irony of ironies, here's a story before the game on the dominance of the Tech bullpen and how Blake Wood doesn't have to worry about finishing the game tonight - how their post-season staff ERA is 0.90....... well, it was.......... Here's more on Danny Hall trying to keep all his players focused post-draft............ Here's a good article on Jeremy Slayden and returning from injury............ Here's more on the GT/Tenn matchup from a personal standpoint.......... Here's an AP story about a trip to Omaha being on the line for GT and Tenn....... Here's more on the Jacket's "unheralded" pitching staff......... Here's a scouting report on all the games........ Here's a story on Tenn's ace Luke Hochevar.............. Here are very good scouting reports from BaseballAmerica on all the games..........

In other notes, if you have insiders premium, here's a Q&A with Austin Jackson right before signing with the Yanks............ Here's more on Austin chosing the Yanks. Note that his contract is actually structured to prevent him from returing to college basketball after a few years. The bonus money is spread out. Those bastiches.......... Here's another article, just prior to it becoming official.......... And yet another story from the Savannah rag....... Did I forget the AJC version?........ Here's the Dallas Paper version..........
