What's Buzzin'

MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY
Looks like D-Rad is starting to make his mark how the GTAA raises funds.

CALVIN WINS ACC BACK OF THE WEEK
For the 4th time this season, CJ gets ACC Back of the Week. By the way, The Truth is currently 3rd in the nation in TD receptions. Check out this cool wallpaper image....

DURANT BROOKS GETS PROPS

Our punter has been named a top-10 semi-finalist for the Ray Guy award. Congrats!!! Oh by the way, he's currently #1 in the nation in net punting.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - ANTHONY MCHENRY / BJ ELDER

Well I'll be - T-Mac got drafted into the NBDL........................... and so did our man BJ Elder.

MORE ON FOOTBALL RECRUIT DERRICK MORGAN
A nice story on Derrick Morgan (and another one), the #1 recruit in the state on Penn, and the latest verbal to the Jackets.

"Morgan is another amazing piece of an already great recruiting class for Georgia Tech," said Jeremy Crabtree of Rivals.com. "He's one of the most dominating defenders in the East, and he's getting even better.
None of it surprises Coatesville dean of student affairs/activities Brian Chenger. "He's impressive, and I mean as a person, a very intelligent young man," Chenger said. "He went to an elementary school and spoke to kids recently. Did a very nice job. That just adds to it. Georgia Tech has a great one coming."
DID YOU KNOW
Did you know that the guitarist for 70's / 80's band 38-Special was a Tech grad? It's true.................. Speaking of cool bands, I'm sure you already knew this, but Mark Lee, member of the awesome band Third Day, (here too), happens to also be a Tech grad, and fellow blogger. He references our blog often, and I need to return the favor. I am telling you, buy some of their albums. They are the real deal.

THE KNICKS PRACTICE AT AMC
Well, as if we really wanted MORE proof that Coach Hewitt liked the Knicks and there was a communication line there. Isiah Thomas took his band of misfits led by $15 shoe wearin' Starbury and practiced at Tech this week. How about that. I wonder if Steph remembered where the lockerroom was?............. Evidently the Tech ladies team "happened" to be there and checked out practice.............. Also, Steph had this to say:

Marbury left after his freshman year at Georgia Tech, where the Knicks practiced yesterday. Marbury said he never had intentions of spending more than one season there. He admits openly he went to Georgia Tech to become a professional basketball player, not a chemical engineer.

Marbury led Georgia Tech to the Sweet 16 and an ACC regular-season championship.

"People thought I might come out after high school," Marbury said. "But going to school one year definitely gave me some stability, different atmosphere, different life."

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - TED ROOF
Well, if winning isn't an option, then group hugs are in order. Note the picture of Coach Roof simulating his celebration pose should something good happen for Duke this season in football................. You know, we kid, but being a head coach is a difficult job, as this article attests, with mention of Coach Gailey's heart attack.

FRESHMAN POINT GUARDS IN THE ACC
Well, Javaris Crittenton ain't the only new kid on the block that will have to run his team in the ACC.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - SHERMAN DILLARD
Ever wonder why Coach Dillard never could get things going at James Madison as the head man after his assistant coaching under Coach Cremins? This article attempts to flesh that out.

STEWART MANDEL CONTINUES TO BE AN IDIOT
Not only does Mandel throw in another pot-shot at Chan Gailey, he also makes people people believe that it was a Sports Illustrated listed of the nation's worst coaches. Sorry, it was just one idiots opinion, and SI is just a smaller minded rag for letting him print crap like that.

Holy cow, look what we have here! A matchup of SI.com's No. 1 "worst coach" from June 2005, Chan Gailey, vs. 2006 honoree Chuck Amato. What does this tell us? A) Someone has to win this game; and B) Someone obviously has to choke. Clearly, that's the guy coaching the first-place team.

Oh yeah, anyone remember his promise that if Tech played for the ACC Championship he would buy Varsity dogs for everyone? Almost time to pay out Stewie......

I like this Tech team a lot, but I'm still not 100 percent convinced that Coach Chan won't find a way to screw it up. So here's the deal: If the Jackets win their division like they should, he's off the list, and a round of hot dogs at the Varsity are on me.

By the way, I sent Mr.Mandel the following note:

Start getting ready to buy Varsity hotdogs for all Jacket fans - payment time is coming soon. While we're eating dogs, hopefully you'll be eating crow in your column.

THROWING DOWN THE GAUNTLET

Well, this RPI biddie throws down the gauntlet if you ask me.

Jackson began by praising the Institute for the increasing recognition it is receiving on the national stage. She mentioned RPI's place on Kaplan/Newsweek's recent list of "New Ivies," and its rise to position 42 on the U.S. News and World Report's list of top universities. Offering encouragement, she noted that Rensselaer is making progress in spite of trying times and that, "When we top Georgia Tech. in a couple of years, I want you to remember what I said.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
Check out the Miami game highlights......................... Also, here is Coach Gailey's post-game emotional speech.

HOOPS POLLS
Well most of the hoops polls are out. Tech is #23 in AP and #21 in the coaches poll. A bit high if you ask me (more than they deserve), but as always, polls don't mean much at this point.

STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
Based on NCAA stats, Georgia Tech has had the 7th hardest schedule in the nation so far, yet has the 116th (out of 119) hardest schedule remaining. Our past opponents have a record of 38-22 and our future opponents have a record of 5-20. Me likes...................
