Football Practice - Day 1

Well, here are some of the reports from day 1 at practice yesterday:

Here are some articles:

QUESTIONS GO UNANSWERED
Brian Murphy - Macon Telegraph

NOTEBOOK
Macon Telegraph
Nice overview of key items, including using the hoops team to build a family atmosphere. Note that freshman Darrell Robertson has been moved from defensive end to linebacker.

PRACTICE BEGINS AT GT
Ryan Bass - insiders.com
Nice picture of Calvin Johnson. Very interesting to hear that freshman Gary Guyton was impressive on day one. Bass referred to him as a "man-child" and a "beast". Also nice to see that Chris Reis had two INT's on day 1. If he can adjust this well to the LB position we will be ok.

TECH HOPING FROSH FACE CATCHES ON
Brian Murphy - Macon Telegraph
Nice story on Calvin Johnson - you have to love this comment:

Johnson, who will not turn 19 until September, has impressed teammates with his humbleness and said the only record that matters to him is the Yellow Jackets' won-loss mark.

NCAA APPROVES NEW RECRUITING RULES
Well, it was finalized yesterday. Story here...... I just love Mark Richt's spin on this thing. If kids have to fly to ATL then go to Athens, they will miss the morning session on academics. Ok, so what you are saying is that you will SACRIFICE the academic session, and not re-arrange the schedule to make sure it is covered? Why would expect anything less from the school that produced the DumbDogs.

Having said that, one of our "own", Bill Curry, is spouting off about the way "it used to be" - link here.
"The same stuff happened when I played [at Georgia Tech] in 1963 but nobody ever put it in the newspaper," Curry said Thursday during a forum on college football issues conducted on the UConn campus. "We used to go get each other out of jail, locked up drunk. But nobody would dare write that. Some of our legendary coaches, with their personal lives, wouldn't last two weeks in today's media market. Our culture is what it is.

FSU KICKER CUTS HAIR - BIG NEWS?
Remember Gary Cismesia? This is the kicker who had verballed to GT, but later backed out and accepted a 'ship to FSU once they offered. Well, evidently he has cut his hair, which I guess is a big deal. Link here.
