Beesball News - Slayden back, Owings not

Well, it's official - Micah Owings will transfer - link here. No doubt I am disappointed in this. It would be hard enough to see him go pro, but at least then you know the motivation. Transferring really puts into question what is going on in his head or the program itself. Rumors on the board said he was not pleased with his off-season progress at the plate after a solid freshman campaign and wanted better coaching help. He may also have been disappointed with his coaching on the mound. This is only speculation. Of course, our hitting coach left the team to take another job. Any way you cut it, this is a tough loss. One of our best pitchers and hitters will be playing for some other college - rumors are Texas.

The good news is that Jeremy Slayden WILL return after being drafted in the 18th round by the Oakland A's. No doubt Slayden can be an impact player for us next season, so I am glad to see him back. He will actually have 2 years of eligibility remaining since he took a medical redshirt after a season-ending shoulder surgery.

No news yet on Eric Patterson, but news will have to come soon. Classes are underway. He cannot miss much longer. Man, it would be great to have him at the top of the line-up this season. He is so close to setting GT and ACC stolen base records and he is just a competitive disruption for opposing teams.
