Swarm of the Day

BEESBALL RECRUITING
John Michael Vidic is a GT signee and recovering from elbow ligament replacement surgury. Talk about rough, having to go through that in high school. Here is a comment on him from AJC -

"Ranked No. 2 in one preseason poll, Lassiter has found the going tough from the time Georgia Tech signee John Michael Vidic found he wasn't ready to pitch 14 months after elbow ligament replacement surgery. Vidic is hitting .318 with 18 RBIs as a first baseman, but he was the only returning Lassiter pitcher who had ever thrown in a varsity game.......Don't be shocked if Vidic makes his first appearance since the opener, when he lasted only two-thirds of an inning. He pitched in scrimmages this week to see if he was ready."

WES HODGES UPDATE
Hivers are reporting that he had 3 broken bones in his cheek but no vision problems. He will be "out indefinitely". Hodges was hit in the face during the GT/UGAg game at the Ted the other night.

MORE ON ACC TV DEAL
Story here.

ACC WILL CONTINUE 16-GAME CONFERENCE HOOPS SCHEDULE
Well the TV folks wanted 18 games, but check out this quote -
"The ACC announced that it will continue to play a 16-game men's basketball conference schedule even after it becomes a 12-team league in 2005. The ACC's television partners wanted an 18-game conference schedule, but the coaches were strongly opposed, citing the need for strong non-conference games."
. Ok, let's be real here. Yes, they want to play stronger non-conference opponents, but this gives schools more flexibility to schedule the cream-puffs as well. And whether anyone wants to admit it, you have to rack up W's no matter what. RPI matters, but if you had an incredible RPI but end up with 16 wins, you are still likely NIT bound. Story here.

ACC HOOPS TOURNEY FORMAT FINALIZED ALSO
The format for the 11-team men's basketball tournament was finalized. Seeds six though 11 will play on Thursday, and the three winners will advance to Friday, when four quarterfinal games will be played.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW - KIM KING
Very nice story on former GT QB Kim King (thanks to BuddyLeeJr at the Hive). He has beaten opponents and beaten cancer. Read this article if you want to see the true definition of a "Tech man".

FOOTBALL RECRUITING - CJ Byrd
One kid who already has 31 'ship offers and counting, is CJ Byrd. GT is one of the schools that have offered, but let's not hold out breath until we hear more from him. Here are two article about him - schools offered - story about him.
