Hoops - Q&A with Coach Hewitt

Interesting Q&A with the Charlotte Observer with Coach Hewitt:

Q. Who is going to replace Jarrett Jack at point guard?
Hewitt: Zam Fredrick looks like he is going to be our point guard. He is down 25 pounds from the beginning of last season. Smartest player on the team by far. My biggest concern with Zam, and I tell him all the time so it's not any secret, is, are you going to have the stamina at the end of the game to make good decisions?

Q. Twenty-five pounds for a guard is a huge amount.
Hewitt: He was 225 when he got there.

Q. What difference do you see in him at 200?
Hewitt: He's quicker and has greater elevation on his shot. Let's put it this way, the first individual instruction he was in last year, after 20 minutes he had to go to the bathroom. I don't know what he was doing in there, but he had to go. He needed a break. Now he can push through a lot of that stuff.

Now, some of the reports from the Friday scrimmage were that he was running out of gas in the 2nd. Should be interesting to watch. There are also some continuing themes:

1. Talent good. Experience not
2. Coach feels that the inside will be a strength of this team versus last season.

At some point I will give you my team preview and some thoughts to chew on. No doubt it will be fun to watch.
