Various tidbits

Story about ACC hoops from the Devil's Den provides a little reminiscing about ACC moments, including the great point guards Cremins brought to "Point Guard U". If you want to see the entire schedule for the pre-season NIT, click here. The Jackets take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday the 18th. I believe tip-off is actually at 7:00 pm. and the game should be carried by ESPN.

Jason Collier, who had played with the Houston Rockets for the past three years, has landed in the NBA developmental league with the Fayettville Patriots who will be taking on the Michigan Wolverines tonight in Mich's last exhibition game. Also, in another "where are they now" exclusive - Michael Maddux. He can be found on Team Georgia, a traveling exhibition squad. Team Georgia consists of former college players, mostly from Georgia institutions. It is 0-1 after beginning its tour Tuesday with a 93-67 loss at Miami. Forward Michael Maddox of Georgia Tech led Georgia with 28 points and nine rebounds and made 10-of-20 field goal attempts. Who else has played for Team Georgia - James Forrest, Matt Harpring, Juan Gaston, Jason Floyd, Pablo Machado.

On the baseball diamond, see what former Jacket's head coach Jim Morris has done with Miami - heeeeee'ssss bbaaaacccckkk.

On the gridiron, here is a story about 5th year senior kicker Dan Burnett, finally getting his moment in the sun. Special teams gets "special" attention, as here is a story about Hal Higgins and how smart he is. Hey Hal, how about spending less time in the classroom and more time kicking those balls. Kidding of course - Hal, we would love to see you win your starting job back by booting balls 50-60 yards a pop. Also Reggie Ball only needs 147 passing yards to break Shawn Jones's freshman QB passing mark. Barring injury this WILL happen. Nate Curry and his fashion sense are highlighted here. Here is an article about possible further ACC expansion and the ramifications for the middle-of-the-pack teams that BETTER improve or else.

The GT Hall-of-Fame inducts 6 new members Friday night - football players Shawn Jones, Scott Sisson and David Lutz, golfer David Duval, hurdler Derrick Adkins, and track star Nelrae Pasha Ali. I was Scott Sisson's "RA" (Resident Assistant) at GT on Field Dorm, 1st floor back in the day. He and Jim Kushon lived next door. Scott was a fantastic guy and talk about a clutch kicker for GT. He sure hit some big ones. I remember a rough streak he went through in '91 where he missed some key kicks and the fans were on him BIG time - nasty letters, death threats, etc. Never talked about it but it seemed to be hard for him. Of course coming back to the dorm I'm sure brought a smile to his face, as he and Kushon were stockpiling beer cans to build a bar made of them (I think "Kush" was the instigator here). He sure had a rough go at New England when he went pro - missed a bunch of kicks early on his rookie season and had the always understanding and patient Bill Parcels as a coach. Great to see Scott and the others inducted into the HOF!!!! Go Jackets.
