Key QB commits to Jackets | ajc.com

Chan Gailey may have just landed the guy to REALLY get the ball rolling with Georgia Tech recruiting. Big QB Steven Threet, a 6'6" 220lb guy from the midwest, has pledged to the Jackets. Threet is ranked as the 3rd best QB in the midwest and was really starting to pickup steam from major schools. Some notes from various stories:

- 6'6", 220 lb
- from Michigan
- offers from Wisc, Miami-OH, NCST, Stanford, Indiana, Ill, Cincy, Central Mich
- above average arm strength
- accurate with great touch on all his passes
- 4.0 GPA, 27 ACT score
- junior stats - 108-238 passes complete, 1592 yards, 20 TD's, 11 INT's
- not overly fast.
- really raised his profile at camps
- very well liked guy by other recruits
- could be a very effective recruiter to strengthen the rest of the class.

Why didn't Mich or Mich St. jump on him? Well, they each have commits from top QB targets, so that played in our favor. Threet grew up a U of M fan and his mom is actually an alum, so timing is everything...

Bottom line is that Threet is a talented, rising senior with the size and skill set the Jackets really need. He has the tools to develop into something special. Congrats to Coach and staff and cograts to Steven. You made the right choice. GO JACKETS!!!!!
