CBS Sportsline - "Hire Roof NOW!!!"

Check out this story about hiring Ted Roof permanently at Duke. Some highlights include:

on Roof's "networking" ability
"Roof, showing networking skills that eluded Franks, already has sought out Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski for advice -- matching the number of in-depth conversations Krzyzewski had had with Franks in five years. To friends, Franks said Krzyzewski didn't know who he was. Franks was wrong, of course. Krzyzewski knew. He just didn't care."

On Duke AD Joe Alleva's track record hiring coaches:
Duke athletics director Joe Alleva already has said Roof will be among the four or five candidates to be interviewed. That's an obvious move, but then, Alleva hasn't exactly shown the best instincts. He fired two-time national coach of the year Fred Goldsmith in 1998 and replaced him with Franks, a Duke alum who had never been a coordinator in college. In the process, Alleva turned down inquiries from two of the hottest coaches in the country, Ohio State's Jim Tressel (then at Division I-AA Youngstown State) and Maryland's Ralph Friedgen (then offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech). This time around, Alleva says 50 coaches have called about the position -- which means he needs to start making a whole lot of rejection calls.

Wow - fired 2-time national coach-of-year Fred Goldsmith, hired Carl Franks, passed on Ralph Friedgen AND Jim Tressel. That's quite a track-record!!!!
