More Football Notes

Well, the media guide is now not only available through the sports office, but also online for free - link here

Here is a Q&A with Coach Gailey from the Charlotte Observer - link here.

Where are they now - JP Foschi
Found this brief mention of him from a NY Jets site - link here.

Rookie free agent TE J.P. Foschi of Glen Head and Chaminade High is another local product searching for an employer. Foschi had 41 catches for 377 yards and four TDs in four years at Georgia Tech

Here is an interesting comment from Ralph Friedgen on how they picked Sean Jones as the QB - link here.
Occasionally, tools are enough. In 1989, when Friedgen was the offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, he and Bobby Ross were struggling to pick a starter among Lee Williamson, Paul Bowman, Jeff Howard and Shawn Jones. They ended up picking Jones, a second-year freshman and the most athletic quarterback.

"He didn't have the stats that the other quarterbacks did, but the one stat he did have was that every team he was on scored," Friedgen said. "If you've got a mobile quarterback, he can make a good play out of a bad play."

Friedgen wasn't trying to compare the Jones situation to his current one, but if Steffy plays well during two-a-days, the similarities will be hard to ignore.

In terms of recruiting, here is an article about the talent in the Jonesboro area, and mentions two GT recruits - Jamal Lewis and Darrell Robertson

Over at www.collegefootballnews.com, Pete Fiutak has posted this article "Pulling no punches 2004 - ACC". Here's what he had to say about GT:
Georgia Tech - Push out the jive ... There's consistent and then there's just plain average. Georgia Tech wasn't able to get over the hump when it had some of the most talented teams in the league, and it isn't going to happen now. It all has to start with offense as there needs to be more firepower. Is Reggie Ball really the guy to lead the Yellow Jackets into the ACC's upper tier? I don't think so. He's not the second coming of Joe Hamilton.
Bring in the love ... Give Chan Gailey credit for any success the team had last year considering all the pre-season issues and with a true freshman at quarterback. He didn't get nearly enough praise for the great job he did patching things together and surviving a tough slate. The defense is always going to keep the Yellow Jackets in games against the elite teams and a lot of that has to do with Gailey.

Where are they now - George Godsey
Our man GG just got a job with guess who? None-other than George O'Leary, as grad-assistant coach. Link here. Congrats to Godsey and best of luck. Just don't start helping coach steal all the good talent out of the state of GA......... In another "where are they now", it was reported that Brent Key took a job at W.Carolina as a TE/RB coach. I have not seen any press releases on this.

In this article, Matt Hayes over at Fox Sports thinks that the Big East is better off without "bully" Miami. I just love the arguement - by getting rid of the best football program in the country, all the mediocre Big East programs will just look better by comparison. So shoot for mediocrity and make sure that no team in the conference stands out much further than the rest of the pack. A sure formula for success...... Whatever floats your boat.
