Wellman said he has learned his lesson about setting deadlines for hiring a new coach. "We have begun the pro-cess," Wellman said. "I have no idea how long it's going to take. But as with all other processes like this we will do it as quickly as possible, but do the best job possible." One name certain to surface is that of Bobby Moranda, who was the Deacons' pitching coach and head recruiter before leaving for Georgia Tech four years ago. But Moranda, for all his talents as a coach and recruiter, disappointed some at Wake Forest when he left for another ACC school during recruiting season. There are officials at Wake Forest who suspect that Moranda was, in fact, recruiting for Georgia Tech while still being paid by Wake Forest, a charge that Moranda, in past conversations, has adamantly denied. But Wellman, if past performances are any indication, probably already has a list of candidates, most of whom are largely unknowns to the rank-and-file Deacons fans
