Beesball Notes

JEREMY SLAYDEN:

Outfielder Jeremy Slayden, an 18th-round pick from Georgia Tech, was projected in the first three rounds before the season. His season ended in March when he needed rotator cuff surgery. The A's will watch him play in the wooden-bat Cape Cod League and make a decision on signing him.
More on Slayden and his high school days.

ERIC PATTERSON
Brothers in arm
The Cubs chose Georgia Tech infielder Eric Patterson with the 246th pick of the draft, which means there could soon be a Patterson in Wrigley Field who's faster than his older brother, Corey. A left-handed hitter, Eric is 5-foot-11 inches and 170 pounds. Corey said he and Eric never discussed playing alongside each other one day on a major-league team.

"He'll tell you like I tell you," Corey said. "It doesn't matter who we play for or who we're with, we're going to bust our butt to help that team win a lot of ballgames. The biggest thing we want to do is just play. Whoever you're with, be happy you're there, work hard every day and good things will happen."

But Corey hopes someday he and Eric will be teammates.

"If you ask anybody who has a brother if they'd like to be on the same team, it would definitely be fun," Corey said.
Here is more on EP.

MICAH OWINGS
Micah doesn't want to talk about the late draft position. Story here. I didn't realize that Owings was drafted in the 2nd round out of high school, but had a contentious negotiation and ended up with the Jackets. Looks like he is being labeled as a guy hard to deal with, whether it is true or not. Coach Hall had a very interesting quote:
"If they're willing to pay him what he feels he's worth, then I'm sure he'd sign," Tech coach Danny Hall said. "I'd welcome him back if he's back."
Not pay him what he's worth, pay him what HE THINKS he is worth.

AUSTIN HYATT
The brother of GT pitcher Jared Hyatt, he wanted to play at GT, but his game took off too late for GT to get him. Now he will end up in Alabama where he can hit and pitch. Story here.

ON THE DAWGS
Hitting a lot of longballs (but so are we)........ Was Perno's outburst calculated and with long-term purpose? Give us a break - he freaked out and his team got some pitches to hit. Story here. From the great Coach Perno himself:
"After 62 games, I'd like to think I have a good grip on what makes them tick".
So what makes UGAg tick is crying like a baby, whining over calls, throwing a tantrum, looking like an idiot and embarrasing yourself? Well, whatever works.
