Football Fix

GT MOTIVATED BY 2003 LOSS TO DUKE
There are some real regrets about last year's Duke game:

"I have a hard time rating lows, but it was a sick feeling," Gailey said this week. "That one hurt more than others, I'll be honest."

"Last year's Duke game was pitiful," said Tech defensive end Eric Henderson. "I think we came out flat. We didn't play like we expected to and I think they played one of their better games, if not their best game. The score showed."

"Last year Duke beat us and I'm sure they were ranked down there also," said Georgia Tech receiver Nate Curry. "We can't overlook them again this year. Rankings have nothing to do with this."

FOOTBALL SEEKS TO STING JACKETS
From the Duke Student Paper. Nice words about PJ Daniels. And this on the coaching / player connection between the schools:
The game is a homecoming of sorts for many members of the Duke coaching staff and team. The Blue Devils boast 18 players from Georgia, more than any other state, and Roof played and coached at Georgia Tech before coming to Duke. Although Roof has downplayed the significance of his homecoming, many of the players have found it difficult to ignore the importance of the game.

TECH WILL TAKE DUKE SERIOUSLY THIS TIME
Excuse me. Is there an opponent this team should NOT take seriously?
In two-plus seasons under Gailey, Tech has beaten four teams in the top 25. They've followed up the first three with losses.

TODAY'S MATCH-UP: GT / DUKE
If I were a gambling man, I would take Duke with the points - the spread is just too attractive for a GT offense:
Points at a premium: Georgia Tech is listed as a 23-point favorite, but the Yellow Jackets have scored more than 23 points in just two of their first five games, never scoring more than 28. The Yellow Jackets rank last in the league in scoring offense -- at 18.4 points per game -- while Duke is right on their heels at 19.6.

JACKETS MUST AVOID A LETDOWN

THE ACC AT MIDSEASON
This on GT:
This is one of two ACC teams with two road victories in conference play, and amazingly enough, the Yellow Jackets lost at (gulp) North Carolina. Georgia Tech is a quirky team that can surprise an opponent when defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta finds matchups he can exploit.SECOND-HALF OUTLOOK: Picked near the bottom of the ACC entering the season, the Yellow Jackets are serious contenders for a bowl bid. Four of their remaining six games are at home, beginning with Duke today.

AROUND THE ACC

AROUND THE ACC: PART II
Funny line:
Who's hot, not
Hot: The Georgia Tech defense. Allowing just 81 yards in a victory over Maryland last week? Are you kidding?
Not: The Maryland offense. Gaining just 81 yards in a loss to Georgia Tech last week? Are you kidding?
