Football Fix

ENTIRE GT DEFENSE NAMED WENDY'S GT-AOW
Thats Wendy's " GT Athlete of the week". And well deserved I must say. The defensive performance, holding MD to 81 yards total offense, was THE best performance in the nation this season. That was against a top 25 team, IN THIER HOUSE!!! Now, let's carry this over to.....

JACKETS HOST DUKE FOR HOMECOMING
Another televised game this weekend - on JP Sports. Good deal. Check out this stat:

Georgia Tech held 23rd-ranked Maryland to just 81 yards of offense, which ranks as the best defensive performance in the nation this season. The next best effort was by Virginia, which limited Akron to 84 yards.

Also, note the impact Eric Henderson has had on the D-Line getting to the QB:
Henderson has 10 tackles, two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in the two games. More importantly, his presence and the attention he draws has increased the overall productivity of the defense. After recording just three sacks in the first three games, Tech has had 12 sacks in the last two contests and now has 15 for the season.

DUKE MMQB
Interesting stat about Duke:
A good start against Georgia Tech won't necessarily be good enough. Duke has been outscored 63-61 in the first half over its first five games. In the second half, opponents have dominated by a combined score of 92-37.

UNPROTECTED HOUSE
Wow, their own media uses the UnderArmor thing against them.

GT PULLS OFF ANOTHER SHOCKER

STEWART MANDEL'S GRATUITOUS PROPS...
...to the GT defense:

MORE PROPS FROM ESPN
First on the game:
Maryland had the seventh-most consecutive home wins with 13 before Georgia Tech put the defensive clamps on the Terps in a 20-7 victory. In previous seasons under Ralph Friedgen, Maryland has displayed tremendous offensive improvement over the course of the year, but that trend also ended on Saturday. Maryland managed just 81 yards of total offense against the swarming Yellow Jackets.
Then mention of Reece Davis giving Chris Reis his helmet sticker for the week:
Helmet Stickers:
Rece
Aaron Rodgers, Cal: 29-of-34, 267 yards, TD pass vs. USC.
Chris Reis, Georgia Tech: 2 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss in win over Maryland.
Kellen Clemens, Oregon: 437 pass yards, 3 TD in win over Washington State.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MAKES
From Tony Barnhart:
Georgia Tech and coach Chan Gailey, to put it mildly, didn't have a clue about where their season was going after a lackluster performance against Miami. Turns out there was nothing wrong at Tech that a healthy PJ Daniels, some smarter quarterbacking and a brilliant defensive gameplan couldn't cure. Georgia Tech 20, Maryland 7.

FRIEDGEN IN NO RUSH TO NAME STARTING QB
The Fridge made a statement about the QB that we should all remember:
"I think in some ways that's unfair to Joel," Friedgen said. "But that's the way it is at quarterback. Lot of times you get too much praise and a lot of times you get too much blame. It's something he'll have to deal with and fight through. ... Joel came into the game leading the conference [in total offense], so he had to be doing something right before this."

BOBBY ROSS AND TURNAROUNDS
Nice blurb:
Those who are familiar with Ross' history at Maryland, Georgia Tech and even with the San Diego Chargers remember how his teams often began by losing three or four straight games before becoming respectable and, eventually, championship caliber.
Then this on Ross's post-game celebration.

RECRUITING - FOOTBALL
Mention of another RB GT has expressed some interest in - Marek Seta. However, looks like S.Carolina will get him if they offer a 'ship. The article also mentions LB Antonio Clay, who is interested in GT and will probably visit. Also WR Martin Frierson is mentioned, who made an unofficial visit to GT during the Miami game. Here's what he said of GT:
Irmo wide receiver Martin Frierson (6-2, 185) made an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech for the Miami game. "They really want me," Frierson said of Tech. He remains committed to Notre Dame but will also set an official visit with Georgia Tech. USC also is showing interest.

MARYLAND'S QB STEFFY TO GET MORE TIME

SANFORD STADIUM PROFILE....
...coming soon for Bobby Dodd???
Welch has already heard grumbling and lobbying from fans of other schools. "They say, 'When are you going to do us?'" said Welch, who went to Georgia Tech and is considering a program on Bobby Dodd Stadium at Grant Field down the road. "Everybody says, 'Our stadium is the greatest one.'"

Besides airing in syndication on public television, the documentaries are sold as DVDs for $24.95 (www.greatstadiums.com). Welch has firm commitments from LSU and Michigan for future films and hopes to someday tackle basketball arenas, NASCAR tracks and golf courses.

UVA MOVING UP IN POLLS TO #6
Quote looking back in time:
It is the highest ranking for Virginia since the Cavaliers were the top-ranked team in the country in the 1990 season. In 1998, Virginia climbed to No. 7 in the AP poll but promptly lost 41-38 to Georgia Tech.
