C.J. Miles, regarded by some basketball recruiting analysts as the best high school senior in Texas, will visit the University of Texas this weekend.

By Tuesday, he will decide whether to attend Texas, Kansas or Georgia Tech, said Miles' father, Calvin.

Miles, a 6-foot-6-inch guard and small forward from Skyline High School in Dallas, is not just well regarded among Texas players. TheInsidersHoops.com, based in Raleigh, N.C., rates him the 10th-best senior in the country. Others rank him among the top 20.

Miles already has visited Kansas and Georgia Tech. His visit to Texas will be during the first weekend of practice for the Longhorns.

"Texas wanted to have the last visit," Calvin Miles said. "We promised them they could have that."

The Longhorns, Calvin Miles said, have some impressive assets — head coach Rick Barnes, strength and conditioning coach Todd Wright, and the opportunity for immediate playing time at shooting guard.

"C.J. would like to start as a freshman," Calvin Miles said.

This season, seniors Kenny Taylor and Sydmill Harris will compete for the starting position at shooting guard. Texas has commitments from two high school seniors who plan to sign during the national signing period in November — 6-9 forward-center Theo Davis and 5-10 point guard A.J. Abrams of McNeil.

Barnes signed a five-player freshman recruiting class for this season that was ranked No. 1 in the nation by some national analysts. An encore class that includes Miles, Davis and Abrams would again be regarded as one of the best.
