Jackets are Abuzz...

... Wow, what an original play on words by the Washington Post - link here.

A mix of emotions -- frustration, disappointment, anger -- swirled inside Georgia Tech's locker room Saturday after Miami dominated the Yellow Jackets. After their second straight Atlantic Coast Conference loss, Georgia Tech players faced their coach, Chan Gailey, who offered a distinct message.

"I really wasn't paying attention," senior free safety James Butler said of Gailey's words. "I was so mad."

PARKER: TECH NEEDS 2003 TYPE TURNAROUND

THE FRIDGE CLOSING AN ERA WITH JACKETS
The game will be the last meeting between the two teams featuring players Friedgen coached at Georgia Tech. Robinson, wide receiver Nate Curry and fullback Johnathan Jackson are the three fifth-year seniors on the Jackets' offense.

From the Fridge:
Friedgen remembers his Georgia Tech experience fondly.

"As time goes on, it's not as emotional," he said. " ... But playing against them is still very special to me."

To me, this is about as big a deal as the QB situation - the O-Line.

DEFENSE MASKS ERRORS OF MD QB
We're not the only team this Saturday with a QB that's prone to turnovers. MD has one of their own, although he has put up better overall numbers than Reggie. The Fridge comments on the struggles of young QB's:
A former offensive coordinator at Tech who tutored Joe Hamilton and Shawn Jones, Friedgen suggested Statham's struggles - and Ball's - are no different than other quarterbacks have experienced.

Hamilton, Friedgen said, didn't discover until his junior year the benefits of watching the free safety, despite instructions to do so.

"Everybody thinks it's very easy, but it's not," Friedgen said. "You like to have the luxury of
bringing a quarterback along, getting him some experience. But that doesn't always happen."

"What you have to do is be very patient with a young quarterback. Can they see the field? Are they making the right decisions with the ball?" Friedgen said. "As long as they're doing that, they can make progress."

QB'S HOLD THE KEY TO GT/MD GAME
Arent' the QB's always kind of important???

COACHGAILEY.COM UPDATE POSTED

NORTH CAROLINA USED VOODOO TO BEAT US!!!
Poor Georgia Tech. When its heavily favored football players left Kenan Stadium dragging tail after being thrashed 34-13 by the UNC Tar Heels last month, they must have felt they'd been cursed.
Perhaps they had been.

Days before the Sept. 18 game, Dawn Bunting, the wife of UNC head coach John Bunting, was seen escorting a veiled, stooped figure around the empty stadium. The woman was burning sage and making incantations.

Georgia Tech Athletics Director Dave Braine couldn't be reached for comment. A secretary was laughing too hard to say if the school might want a voodooless rematch.

SUTER NEARING ACC MARK

THE GAME OF THE CENTURY
It was 88 years ago this week that we beat Cumberland 222-0.
It is also a time of remembrance. Did you know that 88 years ago this week Georgia Tech routed Cumberland 222-0 in the most one-sided football game ever? And no, neither Steve Spurrier nor Bobby Bowden were coaching Tech at the time.

Georgia Tech's coach in 1916 was John W. Heisman, whose name is affixed to a trophy given to the best football player in the land. That's hardly a sterling spot on his resume. From what I have learned about the rout, Georgia Tech was upset that Cumberland, a small Tennessee school, whipped the Tech baseball team 22-0 the previous year. Tech wanted payback and took it in kind.
And of course, check out the website dedicated to the game - link here.
