Georgia Tech at Maryland
Chan Gailey knew heading into the Miami game last week his chances were not good. Not only were his down-in-the-mouth Yellow Jackets reeling off a stunning 21-point loss to North Carolina, they would also head into the games against the Hurricanes minus the services of the ACC’s leading rusher, P.J. Daniels. Daniels was held out of the contest with a strained quadriceps and watched from the sidelines as Miami methodically maneuvered past Georgia Tech, 27–3. To further complicate matters, Tech QB Reggie Ball completed only 8-of-25 passes for just 68 yards and threw three interceptions. Ball has now been picked off six times in his last two games.

Meanwhile, Maryland enjoyed the week off while preparing a game plan designed to avenge last year’s disappointing 7–3 loss suffered at Georgia Tech. In that game the Terrapins held the Ramblin’ Wreck to a season-low 228 yards yet came up empty thanks to a 4–1 turnover disparity.

After opening the campaign with a pair of victories, Gailey’s gang is now 2–2 on the season as hopes for a winning season at Tech are dwindling rapidly.
