QB CONTROVERSY JUST ONE OF MD'S WOES

1. UNC drops NCST - are you feeling a little better about our loss to UNC? Or are you just feeling a little better about our chances against NCST? Oh, did I mention TA McLendon for the Heisman?.....not!! By the way, did you know that UNC has 3 losses, all to top 25 teams - FSU, Louisville and Virginia. Not so bad.

2. Wake Forest is the best 0-3 conference team in the HISTORY of the league. I have no doubts about that. Two overtime losses, then a 7 pt heartbreaker yesterday to VT with a chance to score on the last play. Folks this is a good team, and I'm thankful we do not play them this year. They are going to break through soon.

3. FSU just about layed an egg against lowly Syracuse. They just about didn't represent the conference against the same conference we decimated by stealing their best teams. In the end FSU got the W, but who is still wishing THEY were the team we played this year? I am, for one.

4. Clemson, oh Clemson. What can you say? I like Clemson but I live in Clemson territory. These fans think this is a school that should compete for a National Championship EVERY year. The fans upstate SC are very fickle. Sorry to say it. I find it amazing that while they wanted to hang Tommy Bowden last year, their arch-rival last year was stinking things up for a 3rd year and there were no great calls to oust Lou Holtz. Now the Gamecocks are playing better and Clemson wants to hang Bowden again. Only now they are married for 10-years, with a $4,000,000 pre-nup. Heck, I think they are still paying T.Hatfield.

5. Virginia is good. Real good. But let's remember - they have a 5-0 record against teams with a combined record of 10-19. We are talking about wins against Temple, UNC, Akron, Syracuse and Clemson. Yes, they have been impressive. Yes, they deserve to be in the top 10. But is this their year? I'll tell you next Sunday, the day after their game with FSU in Tallahassee.
