Well, Chaunte Howard came in 2nd at the trials, securing her spot on the Olympic team. Story here. Unfortunately David Krummenacker came in 4th place in the men's 800m and missed the cut 0.59th of a second. Here's more on Krummenacker:
And another more detailed story from the AJC.
From Derrick Peterson, who finished 3rd:
“We're sending three really good guys (to Athens). It's a shame that our best guy (Krummenacker) is going to be sitting home. But we've got a good team, we're young and some of us have international experience. So anything can happen.”
On Chaunte Howard: Tisha Waller, Chaunte Howard and Amy Acuff were the class of the field in a quality women's high jump competition. Waller left no doubt that she was in control, clearing all heights except her winning height of 1.98m/6-6 on her first attempt. Her third-attempt clearance at 6-6 gave Waller her fifth U.S. title and second Olympic berth. Howard, the NCAA indoor and outdoor champion and Georgia Tech sophomore who trains with Waller, secured second place with a second-attempt clearance at 1.95/6-4.75.
