The UL-Lafayette men's hoops coach Glynn Cyprien was fired Friday due to lying on his resume. As usual, the "O'Leary incident" gets mention:
"We accepted what he said," OSU Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips said Friday. "Of course, that was pre-Georgia Tech, but we didn't do a good job, either."
Phillips' Georgia Tech comment was in reference to George O'Leary, who was Tech's football coach from 1995-2001 and was hired by Notre Dame on Dec. 9, 2001, only to resign a week later. O'Leary had claimed a master's degree in education and a three-year collegiate playing career in biographies at both schools, and resigned when background checks showed those to be untrue.
