Around the ACC - My Take

1. Virginia - were they overrated? Yes, as it turns out. Are they good - yes, they're just not #6 in the country. You cannot lose 36-3 the way you did to FSU and NOT be called overrated. Shut their running game down and they become a different team. I said last week I would reserve judgement until today for Virginia because the combined record of their opponents was 10-19. Well, I do put them into the top 4 in the conference, but not that close to Miami and FSU right now.

2. Well, UNC gets crushed again, this time by #10 Utah. That means all 4 losses have come against top 25 teams. In fact, 3 of them were top 10 teams and all were on the road. UNC was devasted with injuries to both RB's on the first drive and never got anything going offensively the rest of the game. But defensively they only managed to give up 669 yards. Holy cow. Take that UNC loss away from our season and we're all pretty happy right now. No matter how I try to justify it, it still doesn't feel good.

3. Clemson finally tasted victory again vs Utah ST. after 4 losses in a row, but this is a small step back towards respectibility after their collosal collapse. Clemson fans are only putting their anguish on hold for one week.

4. Miami and FSU are clearly the two best teams in the ACC - wow, what a surprise.

5. Maryland improved their total offense this week by 10 yards, from 81 total to 91 total. Holy cow - what is going on? I'll tell you. Ineffective QB's and a complex playbook. Actually that's too simple of an explanation. How does a team lay two eggs like this back-to-back after leading the ACC in offense?

6. Virginia Tech will come into our game after an absolute thrashing of FL A&M 62-0. Suffice it to say they will be feeling confident.

7. Non-ACC, but Bobby Ross got a 2nd victory in a row with Army. Congrats Coach!!
