The Stats are officially in!!!

Again, while stats really don't mean anything except "W's" and "L's", they are fun to watch. So here are some interesting ones to ponder:

Offense:
- Reggie Ball is already 10th on the all-time ACC freshman passing list (1276 total yards passing, and 1448 total yards). He has a decent shot at finishing 2nd or 3rd on that list by the end of the season. Philip Rivers is the all-time frosh leader with 3054 yards (wow). By the way, Shawn Jones is 5th on the list with 1748 yards and Joe Hamilton is 9th with 1342 yards.
- Reggie is also 5th in the ACC in total offense this year.
- PJ Daniels is 2nd ACC in yards / game (89) and 1st in total yards (623). Also he has averaged 105 yards his last 5 games. Hiis 175 yards against WF was the ACC high in a game this year.
- Jonathon Smith leads the conference in receiving at 104 yards/game. He is 2nd in the ACC with all-purpose yards/game (128). He is also the 2nd leading active receiver in the ACC with 1825 career yards.
- Unfortunately in the team category, we are still poorly ranked in most overall team offensive stats. If we keep up what we have done the last 3 weeks, that should change.

Defense
- Tech has not allowed a TD on an opponents opening drive in 37 consecutive games
- Tech is still #1 in the ACC in rushing defense.
- Opponents are only converting 29% of 3rd downs against Tech (2nd ACC)
- James Butler is tied for the league lead in interceptions with 3 (1 other player). He is also 11th in the ACC in tackles (9.3/game). He is also 2nd in the league with 3 forced fumbles and 8th in passes defended.
- K.Fox is tied for the lead with 12.3 tackles/game. Daryl Smith is not far behind at 10.3/game.
- Eric Henderson is tied for the ACC lead with 6 sacks. He also 4th in league with 9 tackles for a loss.
- Did you know the GT-WF game last week was the shortest so far this year in the ACC (2:42)

While obviously I have focused on all the GOOD stats for Tech, there are plenty of categories where we do not shine (like most offensive team categories). However, as we all know, it takes more than good numbers to win a ball-game. Just look at that freak BJ Symons at Texas Tech. Passes for 586 yards versus NC State and LOSES. All of the stats in the world will not tell you who will win a ballgame. As always, however, they are fun to look at and talk about.
