Get an appreciation for the difficulty in starting a freshman QB

Nice article on how difficult it is to start a freshman QB (particularly TRUE frosh like Ball). Ball does get a good mention.

Quote from Bobby Bowden: "If you are starting a pure freshman quarterback, I hope you run the option or something," Bowden told Florida Today. "Because if you've got to bet on him to drop back and read coverages and make real intelligent decisions, I don't think the kid is out there (who can do that). I don't think God has made them that way yet, you know?

"You'd have to keep it very simple. It's not the arm, it's not a physical problem. It's the ability to make a decision. How many freshmen could you stick out there, a straight-A student, and give him 11 different coverages? When he throws that ball, he hasn't got any idea which (coverage defenses) are in because they are disguising, you know?". "To expect him to drop back and read that and get that ball to the right guy, they haven't made those guys yet."
