This article sure does NOT give you confidence in the status of our recruiting battle for Randolph Morris in hoops. Check out this quote on his numbers:
He is certainly playing that well so far. Through 16 games, Morris is averaging 27.5 points, 16.2 rebounds, 5.2 rejections and 3.2 assists. He scored a season-high 39 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in a win over Decatur (Ga.) Green Forest and has scored 30 or more points four other times.
Here's my take. I would love to see Randolph play college basketball. If he does the college game wins and Randolph should win as well. He will be much better off playing at the collegiate level and developing his game than sitting on the bench of an NBA roster. Obviously I want to see him in Hotlanta playing for the Jackets. But if he does chose Kentucky (or UNC as mentioned), the college game still wins. I will be more pleased than if he goes straight to the big dance.
Ultimately Randolph has to decide what is best for his future - how to best develop his game, how to best get an education. I don't envy the decisions he has to make. There are stories of kids who left early and were never heard from again. There were kids who stayed in college for a "standout" season and were never heard from again (can you say James Forrest?). But there are also the Tim Duncan stories to tell - a guy who actually stayed all 4 years, developed his game and now has two rings. Either way, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. In many ways his comments, attitude and demeanor remind me a lot of Chris Bosh. Chris certainly helped himself by playing a year at GT. Maybe Randolph will feel the same way.
