The folks over a the Hive are reporting that Calvin Johnson has verbally committed to the Jackets. To say this is big is an understatement. Calvin is a "5-star" recruit (whatever that really means), is 6'4.5" tall and 215lb from Tyrone GA. Big AND fast and people say he catches everything that comes his way. CJ is considered the #1 receiving prospect in Georgia - here is his profile. He is on all the top 100 lists. In fact, insiders.com has him listed as the #13 prospect in the nation.
The kicker in all this is that he was down to 2 schools - GT and UGAy. This was an in-state battle and Chan Gailey and Co. managed to convince him to join the good guys.
Here was a quote from an article PRIOR to his decision from SI.com:
"Georgia also hosted Calvin Johnson, the nation's No. 3-rated wideout. Johnson should decide very soon between the Dawgs and Yellow Jackets. "I hoping to make it [decision] sometime next week. I love the academics at Tech. I can get a great degree there in engineering. Georgia has the ability to win it all next season. I think I can play early at both schools. It's going to be tough."
Calvin, welcome to GT. Glad to have you as a Jacket and we look forward to seeing you on the field. You made the right choice and we wish you the best off the field as well. GaTech is tough, but it is a great place that you can always be proud of beeing associated with.
WELCOME!!!! GO JACKETS!!!
