Tech gets 2 Hoops commits today

Tech has gotten 2 verbal hoops commits today from Zam Fredirick and Anthony Morrow. Zam has been reported in the past (6'0" 215 lb guard). Morrow is a 6'6" 190lb small forward. He is listed by Rivals as the 125 best high school player, the 26th best small foward and the 42nd best in the Southeast. He is from Charlotte NC. Here is an article about him. Zam is listed by Rivals as the #126 best player in the country and the 23rd best point guard. Both players seem like great additions to the team! Here is a good summary of both players.

However, this presents an interesting delimma for Tech. There are actually some more highly rated recruits considering Tech, including Randolph Morris (19th best by Rivals, 3rd best center, down to UK/GT), Jeremis Smith (41st best by Rivals, 6th best small forward; down to AZ/GT), RaSean Dickey (53rd best by Rivals, 14th best power forward), Brian Johnson (#33 by Rivals, #10 power forward; down to Louisville/GT), and Chamberlain Oguchi (100th by Rivals, 19th best shooting guard). This does not even count Dwight Howard (#1 by Rivals), who will probably go to the NBA. There is another kid named Andrew Brackman (#109 by Rivals, #23 small forward), who is down to GT or NCST. However, this 6'9" 205lb guy is a 2-sport star. He is a bigtime pitching prospect and a quick-developing hoops talent that our baseball team is trying to land. NCST has offered him sc'ships for BOTH hoops AND baseball, and we have only offered baseball. I think he could sit out a year and then get a sc'ship for hoops as well, so it is possible we land this guy also.

So that means 2 more scholorships and 6 top 100 players with Tech on the short list. Maybe I am getting greedy, but makes you wonder if Hewitt was smart awarding Mario West a Scholorship for this year (sorry Mario). That would have given him 5 'ships to handout. It appears our most likely scenario is to land 2 of 3 out of Randolph Morris, RaSean Dickie and Jeremis Smith. Either way this will be a solid recruiting class.

Update - here is the AJC article.
