I guess some people are passionate about football

Check out this rant on The Hive. Obviously this guy cares a lot about GaTech - in particular football. I get the sense from reading various opinions that Tech joining the SEC breaks down into two camps.

1. People who remember Tech in the 50's / 60's during the Bobby Dodd era. This group seems to yearn for the days of competing every year again with the Auburn's, LSU's, Tenn's, Alabama's, etc. They just don't get the same satisfaction from playing Wake Forest, Duke and UNC every year.

2. People who do NOT remember that era and only know the SEC for years of corruption, acedemic fraud, cheating and scandals. This is the recent history. This is what the ACC is not known for. This group tends to want to stay in the ACC. I graduated from Tech and thought of it more like "surviving" than "graduating". We went through something difficult and spent blood, sweat and tears. I don't like the idea of the institution being thought of at the level of UGA and Alabama. Pretty arrogant considering we are talking athletic conferences here, but image is important.

Now I certainly put football #1 in my book, but basketball and baseball are NOT a distant 2nd. But everyone has a right to their opinion
