Hoops - UAB Scrimmage

Well, Tech scrimmaged UAB a few days ago in a closed setting. While nobody is supposed to report anything, here's what Andy Katz had to say on his ESPN blog:

UAB scrimmaged Georgia Tech in Birmingham over the weekend and Mike Davis couldn't be more thrilled with the play of point guard Paul Delaney. His junior playmaker had 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the scrimmage.

"I didn't know he was this good at the point," Davis said. "He's real fast, a really good athlete. He's been a big-time surprise for us."

One-time Oklahoma signee Jeremy Mayfield is "coming around," and the biggest surprise in the scrimmage was the shooting of sophomore Lawrence Kinnard, who had 17 points. The score isn't supposed to be kept, but it was and UAB apparently won 82-69, according to Davis.

On a different note, Coach Hewitt had some glowing things to say about frosh Javaris Crittenton:

"It's okay because those guys (freshman) play extremely hard," Hewitt said Tuesday. "People talk a lot about their talent and how gifted they are. They're a hard-playing bunch, and they're a tough bunch. Javaris is probably in the best shape of anybody on our team, and that's hard for a freshman. As coaches, we tell freshmen that they have no idea what it's like to be in tip-top shape and they've never worked so hard before. This guy from day one has, literally, won every single sprint."
