Recruiting - Women's Hoops

Not only is the lady hoops team off to a big start, they have done a better job of bringing in top talent. Here are a couple of story about another incoming freshman - Jacqua Williams:

VIKINGS TOO QUICK

Jacqua Williams, the Vikings' Georgia Tech-bound guard, scored 25 points as Beach bounced back from a tough 73-69 loss to 4A power Garfield Saturday night. That game had matched last season's state runners-up in the two largest enrollment classifications.

Williams, the 2003-04 Seattle Times female athlete of the year for her basketball and track-and-field prowess, also contributed 10 steals, three blocks and five rebounds, and shot 10 of 20 from the floor.

WILLIAMS, BEACH BLOW BY BLANCHET

"Man, we run like crazy," Georgia Tech-bound guard Jacqua Williams said. "There is a lot of mental errors but we make up for it. It doesn't matter if we get a million steals and only five turnovers, we still have to pay for it because that has a lot to do with discipline."

Williams played for another family member last night, as her 25 points, 10 steals, five rebounds and three blocks were a birthday present for her mother.

The contest was fairly even through the first quarter as the teams sized each other up. Before the end of the period, which ended 11-9 in favor of Beach, Williams was called for a technical foul for cursing and stomping her feet, officially called unsportswoman-like conduct.

"All I did was stomp and throw my hand up because it was a bad shot. I didn't cuss," Williams said in her defense.
