Hoops Recruiting

Interesting story about David Kool, who tore his ACL, but is getting a look from the Jackets......

Kool suffered a torn ACL in an Amateur Athletic Union tournament in Bloomington, Ind., when he was hit in the leg by an opponent scrambling for a loose ball. Kool tried to play through the injury when doctors thought it may only be a hamstring injury. But it was diagnosed as a torn ACL last week and surgery has been scheduled for Friday.

Kool, a bona fide Mr. Basketball candidate for the 2005-06 season, said he'll rehab the knee twice a day all summer and hopes to be near 100 percent by September. although some ACL injuries take up to a year to heal, Kool said doctors have told him he could start light shooting drills by the end of the summer and should be healthy for the start of basketball practices in November.

Kool enters his senior year as one of the most sought-after players in the state. He was the sixth man on South Christian's 2002-03 state champion club, averaged 23 points per game as a sophomore and 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists last year in helping the Sailors to another state title. He was the Associated Press Class B Player of the Year.

Kool doesn't believe the injury will scare off recruiters, most of which are aware of the injury. Western Michigan, for instance, has already offered him a scholarship. Georgia Tech recently contacted him while schools such as Michigan, Michigan State, Connecticut, Florida, Florida State, Stanford, Illinois and Boston College have all shown an interest.
