Hoops: Randolph Morris

Just more to make you feel a little better. Not to slam Randolph Morris, but just to kill any "what if's" that still go through your mind. Hey, we all would have loved to have him in a Jacket uniform, but he's definitely proof that recruits tend to always seem better before they get to campus than they actually end up playing. I guess that's what you call "potential" and "expectations". Morris is a 7' kid with potential, and he's still got it.

Bearup recently watched Morris work out in Atlanta with players from Georgia Tech, Charlotte and Clemson.

"I saw about what I expected. He had the same strengths and weaknesses," Bearup said.

Morris was not a dominant player as a freshman last year for Kentucky when he averaged 8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Bearup notes that Morris' size (6-10, 250 pounds) and offensive skills could make him attractive to some NBA teams.

Of course, his lack of rebounding and problems running the court will not appeal to other teams.

"The thing that will cost him spots in the draft, in my opinion, is that he does't run well, and I'm not sure if it is because he can't or won't, and he doesn't rebound well in traffic," Bearup said. "He doesn't block or alter shots, either. Most teams want that in a low post guy."
