Beesball: Jackets Beat the Cocks

OK, a bad play on words, but let's face it - they beg for it. Anyhow, the Jackets took down the Gamecocks on the strength of a complete game pitching performance by Blake Wood - the first complete game by a Jacket pitcher all season.......... Here are game quotes......... Here's the boxscore...... Very cool - Jeremy Slayden pinch hits in the 9th and goes yard. Evidently he stood and admired his shot a little long, then pumped his fist in the air..... Not so cool - Danny Payne is plunked in the back on the 2nd pitch, as he was the following batter. Eventually, SC's 3rd base coach is ejected.......... Here's the AP story.......... Here's the AJC Story......... Here's the Gamecock version of the story........... More cool - Tyler Greene reached base 6 times during the game - 3 hits, 2 walks, 1 hit-by-pitch......... Tech advances to the NCAA Atlanta Regional Championship game on Sunday and will have to be beaten twice. The Yellow Jackets will await the winner of No. 2 seed South Carolina and No. 3 seed Michigan at 4 p.m. tomorrow. Michigan beat Furman today...................... After his game-winning single against Furman in extra innings, Jeff Kindel is getting some love...... Kindel gets even more love here....... And the AJC jumps on board with some love too........... More on the stud Matt Wieters........

In other important news, the rumors are true that Texas A&M has asked to contact Danny Hall about their vacant coaching position. However, based on this article, the school will make it difficult for Hall to leave......

Our man Dave Braine (AD) continues to get props from the guys who work for him - of course who's going to bite the hand that feeds them. Particularly a hand that says this:

"I told Bill (Byrne, the athletics director at Texas A&M), that you're not going to get him unless he really wants to take the job," Braine said. "Because we're going to do anything we can to keep him."

"I told him before this season that we were going to redo his contract after the year," said Braine, who informed Hall of Texas A&M's request Wednesday.

Here's Danny Hall's comment:

"You probably have to listen," Hall said. "But I will say this: I work for one of the best athletic directors in the country and I have one of the best jobs in the country. That goes a long way."

Old story now, but here's the one about Slayden being cleared to play - and man did he make the best of his chance.....
