Beesball: Cocks Shoot Blanks

Jackets win 5-0 on the STRONG pitching performance of Tim Gustafson. He has his longest outing of the season, going 7 innings, giving up only 4 hits, no runs, 2 walks, 4 k's, and all 4 hits were singles......... Matt Wieters and Jeremy Slayden go deep on back-to-back shots. Evidently both were "moon" shots. Slayden ends up with 3 hits - talk about a strong comeback after his injury!!!!.............. The key play of the game was a 6th inning, bases-loaded, 1 out situation for Carolina. For some reason their batter attempted the bunt, and Andy H. turns a fantastic double play to end the inning. The Cocks only had one base-runner after that as the they "went limp".......... Matt Wieters closes out the game in the 8th/9th, continuing his do-it-all talents. What those on the radio did not see were at least 3 outstanding defensive plays as well A couple were digs in the dirt on bad throws to first............

Jackets will now face the Tennessee Volunteers in ATL for the super-regional..... That series is likely to be a Friday-Sunday, but could be Sat-Mon..... Tennessee will put one of the top 5 pitchers in the country on the mound for game one - Luke Hochevar, who is 15-2 with a 2.13 ERA......... Here's an update on his season - good look at him........

Game Notes:
Tim Gustafson named the MVP of the tourney................ All tourney team includes Jeff Kindel, Tim Gustafson, Andy Hawranick, Tyler Greene and Danny Payne.............Tyler Greene has his hitting streak snapped at 23 games, the 6th longest is GT history.......... GT pitchers end up with a 1.75 ERA during the regional - fairly amaazing......... SC radio announcers are quoted after Jeff Kindel is hit-by-a-pitch as saying "Danny Hall must teach his kids how to get hit. That's the 75th hit batter this season and the average is around 42. I don't have any sympathy for him if he is hurt"...............Total attendence for the tourney 16,838.................. Jackets do their part to take down the SEC. While the SEC got 9 teams into regionals to the ACC's 7, the ACC places 4 into the super-regionals, while it appears the SEC will place 3............... One SC fan on a discussion board wrote this - "Wieters spotted sweeping the dugout and locking the bats up-dang!***". Another wrote - "Man- a knife in the back at the end with Weiters blowing us away from the mound. Heck of an athlete and baseball player. Wish we had about 3 like him that can do it all - bat, field, pitch."................. The MLB draft begins tomorrow. Stay tuned for Jacket draftees, particularly Austin Jackson and Dave Duncan.............

Lastly, I stole this from someone at the Hive - the busride back for the GameCOCKS will be a long one:
