TECH SHUTS DOWN CLEMSON

POST-GAME QUOTES

BOXSCORE

TECH BEAT CLEMSON

TECH PROBABLY GAINS NCAA BERTH

Here are the ACC tourney scenarios:

The Yellow Jackets clinched a tie for fourth in the conference, but will be either the fifth or sixth seed in this week's ACC Tournament in Washington, D.C.

If Wake Forest defeats North Carolina State on Sunday night, the Yellow Jackets will play Virginia Tech on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Georgia Tech will be the fifth seed, losing a tie-breaker to the Hokies, in this scenario.

If the N.C. State wins, the Yellow Jackets will play the loser of Sunday's Virginia-Florida State game on Thursday at 7 p.m. Georgia Tech will be the sixth seed, losing tiebreakers to State and Virginia Tech, in this scenario.

TENDONITIS CASTS DOUBT ON FORWARD
For all the criticism people have layed on Isma'il, One thing is for sure - Paul Hewitt sticks up for his players. I like that.

"I think anybody who's watched him play realizes that he's a different player than he was last year," coach Paul Hewitt said. "He's done it on just absolute heart and determination. Today it was just too much. I couldn't stand to watch him hobbling."

AND THE WINNERS ARE (ACC AWARDS)

Flop Team of the Year: Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets returned four starters from last year's team, which advanced to the national final. Yet here they are, 16-10 with only two wins coming against the RPI's top 50, and still not assured of an NCAA bid.

Play of the year

Sharrod Ford's dunk at the buzzer gave Clemson a significant victory over Virginia Tech in that the Tigers qualified for the NIT. But it wasn't as important as B.J. Elder's free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining at Florida State. Jarrett Jack kept Georgia Tech's hopes alive by throwing a blind pass back inbounds after fumbling the ball away. The ball landed in the hands of Elder, who was fouled as he went up for the shot. The win saved the Yellow Jackets from a sure dismissal by the NCAA tournament selection committee.

Most disappointing (so far)

Georgia Tech returned four starters from last year's national runner-up and started No. 3 in the national rankings. But the Yellow Jackets didn't come close to playing up to expectations, posting just one win of note (over Wake in OT). Tech made a late-season surge with everyone healthy, but still isn't assured of an NCAA invitation.

NEW RPI GOOD TO MID-MAJORS

Take Georgia Tech, which is 16-10, 7-8 in the fiercely competitive ACC. Ranked 38th in RPI through Wednesday, Tech trailed two members of the Missouri Valley -- Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa -- as well as Pacific, Vermont, Miami (Ohio), Nevada, St. Mary's, Old Dominion and Holy Cross. This year, for the first time, RPI assigns extra credit for road victories.
