Better late than never

Just arrived in Scottsdale and thought I would try to give some links for your viewing pleasure. Since I have not caught up with all the games, I will try to provide some links going back to Friday.

NCAA TOURNEY STORIES

JACKETS TO FACE GW FRIDAY IN NASHVILLE
Nice that we only have to make a short trip to Nashville.

TOURNEY FACT OF THE DAY
In 15 of the last 16 years, a 5 seed has upset a 12 seed. Whoops.

LOOKING AT THE ALBUQUERQUE REGION

ALBUQUERQUE PART II ANALYSIS

MICHAEL WILBON: UPSETS RIPE FOR THE PICKING
Wilbon continues to push the Jackets stock, picking us in the Final Four:

I'll trade powerhouse teams for opening-weekend upsets and game-ending baskets any day.

So, I'm sure, would George Washington. Let me get this straight: GW's reward for winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament, for winning 10 of its last 12 games, is to play suddenly resurgent ACC Tournament runner-up Georgia Tech, which lost in last year's NCAA title game? The A-10 is reduced to one team -- GW -- and this is what it draws?

CHARLOTTE TO HOST UNC, DUKE
This on Louisville:

Georgia Tech can't be too thrilled with its draw. Coming off an appearance in the ACC title game Sunday afternoon, the Yellow Jackets are seeded fifth. If they get past No. 12 George Washington in their first game in Boise, Idaho, they'll probably get the hottest team in the country, Louisville. The Cardinals (27-4) have won 18 of 19, and their RPI is 11.

ON LOUISVILLE

Louisville: Pitino Ball means a variety of pressing, trapping defenses plus a productive perimeter game. Francisco Garcia is a marvelous all-around player. Other than the hard-working Ellis Myles, there isn't much inside.

SNUBS, FLUBS FROM YONI
How about that, he's writing for Fox Sports now. Although he thinks we are ranked to good at a 5-seed. We'll see.

NBC WRITER DISSES JACKETS

Georgia Tech does not have another Cinderella run in it. Just forget it right now. The defense isn’t the same.

SPORTSLINE SAYS WE ARE THE MOST LIKELY UPSET...
... in the Alb region.

Most likely upset: George Washington over Georgia Tech. Colonials coach Carl Hobbs has the big man (Pops Mensah-Bonsu) and three-point shooting guard (T.J. Thompson) to put it together for one game. GW is athletic enough to match up with Tech for a while. They have to hope the Jackets are little bit emotionally spent from the ACC Tournament.

Per Jarrett Jack on his injury:

It's just a sprained ankle. There's nothing that is going to keep me off the court. I'm going to do whatever I can to help my team. I went to the bench and got re-taped, then went back to the locker room to try to get loose and then just did my best to play through it. It was painful, but we've fought so hard all weekend I didn't want to let my team down.

JACK'S SPARK COMES TOO LATE
More on Jack's injury:

The good news following Georgia Tech's 69-64 loss is that it's a low ankle sprain, not the more painful and long-term high ankle sprain.

A NOBLE EFFORT: JACKETS FALL SHORT

Still, the Yellow Jackets had their looks, the best of which was Morrow's open 3-pointer from the top of the key with 40 seconds left and Duke leading 65-62. Jack raised his arms - as if to signify a 3-pointer while the ball was in the air.

"It felt like the best shot I ever took in my life. It felt so good coming off my fingers," Morrow said. "It was just a little long. If I get that shot again, I make it."

DUKE WINS GAME OF SURVIVAL
Interesting stat:

Georgia Tech's Will Bynum, who scored 35 points in Saturday's semifinals, struggled through a 4-for-17 performance Sunday. In the five games immediately following his 20-point efforts this season, Bynum is 17-for-60 (.283) from the floor.

FOUL SHOOTING: Georgia Tech's 21-for-71 (.296) shooting performance was the fifth-worst by any championship game participant.

KENTUCKY WILDCATS - STAYING THE COURSE

The buzz of anticipation for the next Kentucky basketball season -- always operating at gale-force levels -- amped up considerably May 6 when Atlanta area big man Randolph Morris turned down his hometown school, Georgia Tech, and cast his lot with Tubby Smith.
